In another simmering feud between Washington and Moscow, the White House called Tuesday for punishment for the Russia-backed separatists who shot down a passenger jet over Ukraine last year, killing all 298 persons aboard.

“The United States will fully support all efforts to bring to justice those responsible,” said National Security Council spokesman Ned Price. “Our assessment is unchanged — [the plane] was shot down by a surface-to-air missile fired from separatist-controlled territory in eastern Ukraine.”

The Dutch Safety Board concluded Tuesday that Malaysia Airlines flight 17 was destroyed by a Buk surface-to-air missile over eastern Ukraine. But the missile’s Russian manufacturer presented its own report, trying to clear separatists who controlled the area or Russia of involvement in the crash on July 17, 2014.
