BENTON, La. (AP) - Bossier Parish has had so many vehicle burglaries in recent weeks that the sheriff’s office has produced a public service announcement warning people to lock their cars and trucks.

The 30- and 60-second spots include surveillance video of a gloved man trying the door of an SUV and walking away when it turns out to be locked.

Lt. Bill Davis says the surveillance video was from a Haughton subdivision where owners reported thefts from 22 other vehicles.

Early this month, Davis said sheriff’s detectives had been working on 40 vehicle burglaries.

In the spot, he also said, “Keep valuables out of plain view. Remember, these are your belongings. Don’t make it easy for a criminal to steal them.”
