MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) - Alabama Law Enforcement Agency officials say officers on bicycles will once again patrol areas surrounding the state Capitol building.

Officials say the agency’s protective services division is relaunching the bike unit for routine patrol and special events.

Officials say the bike unit began in 2005 with two officers and grown to 10 officers since then.

Secretary of Law Enforcement Spencer Collier says the bike unit helps reduce fuel costs and allows officers to work more closely with employees and visitors to the capitol complex.
