CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (AP) - A December trial has been scheduled for a 31-year-old man charged with killing two people in Cedar Rapids last year.

Last week Kendu Petties pleaded not guilty to two counts of first-degree murder. Cedar Rapids television station KGAN reports (https://bit.ly/1QrBi4c ) that Petties’ trial is set to begin Dec. 14. In August he was arrested in Mesa, Arizona, on an Iowa warrant.

Police say 22-year-old Quintrell Perkins and 20-year-old Sierrah Simmons were fatally wounded on April 2, 2014, when shots were fired from outside the Cedar Rapids home they were in.

This story has been corrected to show the trial is set to begin Dec. 14, not Dec. 4.
