VERNON, Conn. (AP) - Vernon police say a high school was locked down briefly after staff reported a student with a pocket knife inside a classroom.
Authorities say students were evacuated from the classroom and a school resource officer persuaded the 16-year-old boy to turn over the knife after about 30 minutes.
The student was taken to a hospital for a psychiatric evaluation with minor cuts on his arms that police said were self-inflicted.
Vernon police also responded to Rockville High School. The lockdown was lifted except for one hallway in the school after 10 minutes.
