FAIRFAX, Va. (AP) - Police say an incarcerated man at the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center who suffered from extensive medical conditions has died.

County police said Sunday the incident is being investigated as an in-custody death as a matter of protocol.

The deceased has been identified as 68-year-old Paul Guida, of Falls Church, Virginia. Detectives responded after he was reported to be unconscious and not breathing around 11 p.m. Saturday.

Guida was charged in violation of a protective order. He had been held without bond since Oct. 1.

He was being housed in the detention center’s infirmary unit.

Police say the Office of the Medical Examiner will determine the cause of death pending an autopsy.
