ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) - Seventy sports and entertainment celebrities are set to compete for a $500,000 purse in an inaugural golf charity event to benefit Florida Hospital for Children.
The Diamond Resorts Invitational celebrity golf tournament is set for Jan. 14-16 at the Jack Nicklaus-designed Golden Bear Golf Club in Orlando.
Reggie Jackson, Roger Clemens and Larry the Cable Guy are among the early sign-ups for the tournament. It will be played over three days in a 54-hole, modified Stableford format.
Other former Major League Baseball players expected to attend include Hall of Fame pitchers Gaylord Perry, and the Atlanta Braves rotation of John Smoltz, Tom Glavine and Greg Maddux. The National Football League will feature Hall of Famers and Super Bowl MVPs Marcus Allen, Richard Dent, and Mark Rypien.
