Woman dies after car hits light pole in Tucson

TUCSON, Ariz. (AP) - Tucson police say a woman has died after the car she was driving hit a pole.

Police spokeswoman Kimberly Bay says the crash happened just before 2:30 a.m. near Grant Road and Estrella Avenue.

Bay says responding officers found 25-year-old Amy Galarza inside a Nissan Altima and she was unresponsive.

Galarza was taken to a hospital but succumbed to her injuries shortly after.

According to investigators, the Altima was heading westbound on Grant Road when it veered to the right.

The vehicle struck a raised curb and then struck the street light pole.

Police say neither speed nor alcohol appear to be factors.

The crash is still under investigation.

It marks the 46th traffic-related fatality this year.
