GAUTIER, Miss. (AP) - Two Gautier police officers who shot a man during a domestic violence call are on administrative leave with pay pending the outcome of an internal investigation.

Police Capt. Jerry Cooksey did not identify the officers involved, but said placing them on leave was standard protocol.

The Sun Herald reports (https://bit.ly/1MPK0dA) the shooting occurred Thursday near Magnolia Bluff. The suspect, 32-year-old Seth Edward Bemis, exited a home and starting shooting. Sgt. Matt Hoggatt says the officers returned fire, injuring Bemis in the leg. After being treated at Singing River Hospital, Bemis was booked into the Jackson County Jail on two counts of aggravated assault on a police officer. Bond was set at $200,000.

Bemis was not booked on any charges related to the domestic incident, though the case remains under investigation.
