TEXARKANA, Ark. (AP) - Arkansas prison officials say a work release inmate at the Texarkana Regional Correction Center has escaped.

Department of Correction spokeswoman Cathy Frye says 37-year-old Joshua Patterson escaped Monday when he left his job at M&M; Milling in Texarkana. Frye says Patterson was not at the site when prison staff arrived at 6 a.m. to pick him up from the job.

Frye says Patterson is serving 16 years for a theft of property conviction in Benton County and that he has family in Independence County.
