CLIFTON, N.J. (AP) - Authorities say a teenage boy is charged with murder in connection with the fatal shooting of a worker outside a northern New Jersey business.
The Record reports (https://bit.ly/1hMcmIL ) the 17-year-old Clifton resident will appear in court on Tuesday. He is being held at a juvenile facility in Newark.
The teen is accused in the slaying of 21-year-old Leandro Mendoza, which occurred early Friday outside a liquor store. Prosecutors say he’s also charged with possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose and unlawful possession of a weapon.
Police say Mendoza and another store employee were closing the business for the night when they were approached by a masked gunman who opened fire on them.
Mendoza was fatally wounded while the other employee sustained minor injuries.
