GARNER, N.C. (AP) - Police in Garner are looking for a vandal who scrawled the words “Kill a Cop, Save a Child” on mural outside the new a police station in the town near Raleigh.

Local media outlets report the mural on the outside of the station which is not yet occupied features a picture of a police officer with child and a K-9 dog. It represents hundreds of hours of work by local artist Vincent Wood.

Authorities say the mural was defaced on Friday.

The local police chief says the incident amounts to a hate crime and police are offering a $1,000 reward for information leading to an arrest.
