CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) - A group aiming to increase voter registration among 18 year olds says it has registered about 1,400 West Virginia students in the past two months.

Inspire West Virginia is the state branch of the national group Inspire United States.

Program coordinator Kathryn Long told the Charleston Gazette-Mail (https://bit.ly/1kh1nZN ) the West Virginia chapter works with several high school students from each of the 30 or so high schools in West Virginia. In turn, the students have been trained to register their classmates to vote with the goal of registering at least 85 percent of each school’s senior class.

Long said many of the students surpass that goal, registering their entire senior class.
