PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - Officials say two people, including a police officer, have been hospitalized after a vehicle broadsided a police cruiser.

Police are investigating the crash, which officials say happened at the corner of Gano and East Manning Streets Thursday afternoon in Providence.

Police tell WLNE-TV the officer is part of the traffic bureau. He was responding to an accident when a blue Honda ran a stop sign. The cruiser jumped the curb and came to a rest on the front lawn of a building.

Both the officer and the driver were taken to Rhode Island Hospital. Officials say their injuries are not considered serious.
