KEY LARGO, Fla. (AP) - A Georgia man died while on a dive trip off of Key Largo in the Florida Keys.

Monroe County Sheriff’s officials say 50-year-old Morris Mitchell Lamb of Covington, Georgia, entered the water wearing scuba gear on Thursday and yelled for help before he had even gone under water. His brother and a neighbor jumped in the water to assist but were hampered by a strong current.

Another person on the boat called for help. The U.S. Coast Guard and Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission officers responded. They pulled Lamb and the other two men from the water.

Officials say Lamb was taken to a Miami hospital where he was declared dead. The other two men were not injured.

The Miami-Dade County medical examiner’s office will perform an autopsy.
