POMONA, Calif. (AP) - Hot tar oozed out of an overturned truck after it collided with a sedan early Friday, blocking the westbound lanes of State Route 71 in Pomona.

California Highway Patrol Officer Tony Polizzi says he doesn’t know how much hot tar was released from the open-top truck.

One person was taken to a hospital but it wasn’t immediately known if it was the truck driver or the sedan driver.

California Department of Transportation crews were called in to clean up. Polizzi says the road will be blocked until at least 11 a.m.

Traffic is getting around the crash on the shoulder of the two-lane road and is backed up for miles.
