GULFPORT, Miss. (AP) - A 20-year-old man who fled the Harrison County Courthouse after a judge sentenced him to jail time for drug charges is back behind bars.

Chief Deputy Landi Phillips tells The Sun Herald (https://bit.ly/1j5hoBL) Kimaz Carter was in court Thursday on possession charges. He escaped deputies’ custody as he was being put in a transport van. He was in handcuffs secured to a waist chain when he fled.

Phillips said Carter was apprehended by a K-9 officer and has injuries to his upper shoulder. Harrison County deputies, along with help from Gulfport police officers, had searched for Carter around the courthouse Thursday night.

Carter was arrested on a felony escape charge. His bond was set at $100,000 by Justice Court Judge Diane Ladner.
