NEW YORK (AP) - A New York private investigator has been arrested after authorities say he tried to smuggle synthetic marijuana into a jail on Rikers Island.

Marrion-Paul Small-Williams was arrested Friday on promoting prison contraband and marijuana possession charges.

Authorities say the 25-year-old was stopped at a security screening checkpoint after someone tipped off the city’s Department of Investigation.

A drug-sniffing dog screened Small-Williams at the George Vierno Center on Rikers Island.

Officials say Small-Williams had been hiding 66 grams of synthetic marijuana and 24 grams of marijuana in his pants.

Bronx prosecutors say he was arraigned Friday afternoon and held in lieu of $2,000 bail.

His attorney did not immediately return a call for comment.
