YAKIMA, Wash. (AP) - A man has pleaded no contest to charges related to dousing a woman with a flammable liquid and setting her on fire during an argument at an apartment in Yakima.

The Yakima Herald-Republic reports (https://goo.gl/YYUU8i ) Stuart Bachman entered an Alford plea Thursday in Yakima County Superior Court to arson and animal cruelty for killing a dog in the same fire.

Over one quarter of the woman’s body was covered in burns in the March 2014 incident. Police said she was treated in Seattle for burns to her head, face and ear. Prosecutor say the dog died of smoke inhalation. The flames also caused an estimated $50,000 damage to the apartment.

Bachman is expected to get an eight-year prison term at his November sentencing.
