CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (AP) - The Iowa Department of Public Safety’s Division of Criminal Investigation is investigating after a trooper shot at a vehicle that struck a squad car.

According to a news release from the department, an Iowa State Patrol trooper attempted to pull over a suspicious vehicle that may have been involved in retail thefts in Cedar Rapids Thursday afternoon. Police say the vehicle did not stop and a chase ensued.

Authorities say the driver pulled into a gas station and while there, the suspect struck a Johnson County Sheriff’s deputy’s squad car. Officials say a state trooper fired a shot, but no one was injured.

Two people were arrested and taken to Washington County Jail and another person was arrested and transported to the Linn County Jail.

The trooper remains on duty. The Iowa State Patrol is also assisting in the investigation.
