WILLIAMSTON, Mich. (AP) - Students at a Lansing-area high school have honored the janitor by selecting him to be the grand marshal at the annual homecoming parade.

Gary Aungst will ride in a convertible Friday night in Williamston. The 57-year-old has been a janitor at Williamston High School for nearly 40 years.

Senior Anna Goff tells the Lansing State Journal (https://on.lsj.com/1VsnFs9 ) that Aungst is a hard worker who’s always “smiling in the hallways.” He’s also known for a gray beard that’s more than a foot long.

Aungst is honored to be homecoming grand marshal. He has just one concern: He hopes he doesn’t have to give a speech.
