OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) - Authorities say a man wielding a machete and attempting to smash car windows in Oakland was struck by two different vehicles in apparent hit-and-runs.

Oakland police spokeswoman Johnna Watson says the incidents happened in East Oakland about 3 a.m. Monday. He was also throwing bottles and yelling at drivers, Watson said.

The man was taken to an area hospital and placed on a psychiatric hold. He was not seriously injured.

His name and age were not released. It was not clear why he was wielding the weapon.

No one else was injured.



Police are looking for the cars and reviewing witness and surveillance video for clues.

Watson said she could not comment on the intentions of the drivers, however, the motorists could face felony assault with a deadly weapon charges.

No arrests have been made.
