GRETNA, La. (AP) - Two women connected to the man who was shot to death a suburban New Orleans shopping mall on Christmas Eve are suing the suspect and the Gretna shopping mall.

NOLA.com/The Times-Picayune reports (https://bit.ly/1KlxhJt) that Bradricka Brown and Latoya Pierre filed a lawsuit Monday against the Oakwood Mall and Gary Francois, who is charged with killing 24-year-old James Vaughn inside the mall’s Foot Locker store.

Brown was engaged to Vaughn at the time of his death. Pierre is the mother of Vaughn’s daughter.

Authorities say surveillance footage shows François waiting outside the store before he walked inside and shot Brown.

In the lawsuit, Brown and Pierre say the shooting was foreseeable and that the mall did not implement proper security methods.

Francois is scheduled to stand trial Nov. 3 on a second-degree murder charge.
