COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (AP) - A Dallas-bound plane that took off from Colorado Springs had to return to the airport after one of its two engines failed.

The Colorado Springs Gazette ( ) reports that American Airlines flight 1431 landed safely Wednesday morning with 116 passengers and five crewmembers on board. Airline spokeswoman Heather Lenard says no one was injured.

The McDonnell Douglas MD-80 took off at 11:22 a.m. and the crew requested permission to return about 10 minutes later after an indicator light in the cockpit reported a possible mechanical problem.

A maintenance team was inspecting the airplane Wednesday afternoon.
