SALT LAKE CITY (AP) - Police say they’ve arrested a mother and father and are investigating a grandmother after a teacher found a methamphetamine pipe with a book reader turned in by an 8-year-old student.
Authorities said Thursday a Weber County Sheriff’s deputy went to the girl’s home in Washington Terrace and found all three adults in the home had been using narcotics, sometimes around three young children.
Officers say they found drug paraphernalia near children’s toys and books, including one item under a child’s pillow, and the children’s 59-year-old grandmother acknowledged that she might have dropped a meth pipe into the girl’s book bag.
The parents were arrested on suspicion of child endangerment and other charges. The grandmother was not immediately arrested due to health problems.
The children were taken into protective custody.
