IOWA CITY, Iowa (AP) - One member of the Iowa Board of Regents says the board may have mishandled the selection process for the University of Iowa president.
Regent Subhash Sahai said Thursday the search that ended in the hiring of Bruce Harreld may have given off an appearance of bias and a lack of transparency.
Sahai says the 9-member board also needs more time and background information on finalists before making such decisions. He says, “maybe we dropped the ball.”
Sahai, a doctor from Webster City, says he hopes that Harreld “makes us all shine and proud of his selection.” He urged the university to give the former IBM executive a chance.
Sahai spoke one day after hundreds of protesters disrupted the board’s meeting to demand regents resign over their handling of the search.
