BATTLE MOUNTAIN, Nev. (AP) - The Nevada Highway Patrol is investigating the death of an 80-year-old Reno man who was hit by an SUV on Interstate 80 near Battle Mountain after his car broke down on the side of the highway.
Trooper Jim Stewart says Charles Hubach was either walking or standing in the middle of the westbound travel lane about 8 miles east of Battle Mountain when he was struck by a westbound Ford Flex about 6:30 a.m. Friday.
Stewart says the driver, 34-year-old Tasha Levie of Elko, was not injured and immediately pulled over to the shoulder at the scene where Hubach later was pronounced dead.
Stewart says troopers found Hubach’s broken down vehicle on the eastbound side of I-80 and he apparently was crossing the road.
An investigation is continuing.
