LAKE CHARLES, La. (AP) - The West Calcasieu Port has secured the purchase of just over 11 acres of property. One official says the additional land will allow new tenants to move in along with a second port access road.

Lynn Hohensee, the port’s director, tells the American Press (https://bit.ly/1eOXZNb) the land was purchased for $1.5 million. The property, located near the port, includes a 5.1-acre tract of land and a 6.2-acre parcel that stretches to the Intracoastal Waterway. The five-acre tract was rezoned from mixed residential to heavy industrial; the other tract of land was already zoned heavy industrial.

A port says the additional property gives the West Calcasieu Port more than 200 acres of land.

The port’s Gulf Intracoastal Waterway waterfront is expanded by more than 700 linear feet.
