CHESTERFIELD, Va. (AP) - Police say the fatal shooting of a Chesterfield County man is being investigated as an accident.

Chesterfield County police tell media outlets that foul play isn’t suspected.

Police say the victim was traveling with his four children when his vehicle veered off the road and crashed in woods on Saturday. Officers responding to the accident discovered that the man had been shot. He died on Sunday at a local hospital.

The man’s father-in-law, the Rev. Nathan Boehm, identified him as 32-year-old Nick Clavier.

Boehm tells media outlets that Clavier was taking his children on a fishing trip when the accident occurred. He says Clavier had a gun and a concealed weapon permit.

The children, ages 9, 8, 6 and 4 weren’t injured.
