MIAMI (AP) - A prosecutor and an attorney chased a man inside a courthouse after they suspected him of stealing a phone.

The Miami Herald reports (https://hrld.us/1RyZsdt) Miami-Dade Assistant State Attorney Chiaka Ihekwaba and defense attorney Jose Herrera were chatting inside the Miami-Dade criminal courthouse Monday when a man jostled past them.

Ihekwaba says she felt the pocket of her purse and noticed her phone was stolen. Ihekwaba and Herrera raced after the man throughout the courthouse.

Miami Beach Police Officer Kevin Millan and defense lawyer Juan de Jesus Gonzalez immediately detained the man identified as 32-year-old Dachel Gonzalez. Gonzalez was already awaiting trial at the courthouse on battery charges.

Miami-Dade police court services officers charged Gonzalez with third-degree felony grand theft. It isn’t clear if he has an attorney.
