LOS ANGELES (AP) - A reputed Los Angeles gang member has been arrested after police say he stole 39 guns - including assault rifles and shotguns - and thousands of rounds of ammunition.

Police said Thursday that they believe Michael Mendoza stole the collection from a San Fernando Valley storage facility and intended to sell the weapons to gang members.

Authorities say they also confiscated a pound of methamphetamine.

The 44-year-old, a convicted felon who is barred from possessing guns, was arrested Tuesday on suspicion of possessing drugs and weapons. He was released from jail on bail Wednesday.

It’s not clear whether he has an attorney.
