PHOENIX (AP) - The Arizona Department of Transportation says it has busted a criminal operation selling fake credentials and other forms of identity in Phoenix.

ADOT officials said Thursday that detectives apprehended 34-year-old Carlos Morales Alvarez at a manufacturing facility last week in connection with a fraudulent document operation.

The agency says investigators in its fraudulent document unit have been monitoring the operation for two months after receiving a tip.

They seized cardstock used for state credentials, U.S. immigration papers and Maricopa County food handler cards during the Oct. 21 bust. They also found manufacturing equipment, cardstock and stolen identities for sale.

ADOT says it is going through a decade’s worth of documents and has already contacted six Arizona residents whose identities were stolen.

Alvarez is facing more than 20 felony charges.
