AMBRIDGE, Pa. (AP) - A man accused of shooting a western Pennsylvania police officer in his bulletproof vest has been arrested.

Beaver County District Attorney Anthony Berosh says Earl Louis Hollins turned himself in to Aliquippa police on Friday night. Hollins faces charges including attempted murder and aggravated assault.

Police had been searching since early Wednesday for whoever shot Harmony Township Officer Alan Loskoch.

Authorities say Loskoch was on patrol in the township about 20 miles northwest of Pittsburgh when he saw a man trying to break into a car. The suspect shot at the officer, hitting Loskoch once in the vest over his chest.

Loskoch was briefly hospitalized. Police Chief Robert Sivewright says Loskoch is doing well.

There’s no word on whether Hollins has an attorney who can comment on the charges.
