COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) - Author Carl Hiaasen will be talking to a group of central Ohio students and handing out copies of his latest book before speaking at the Columbus Metropolitan Library’s annual fundraiser.

The bestselling novelist, Miami Herald columnist and investigative reporter is the keynote speaker Friday at the library foundation’s Celebration of Learning event.

Earlier in the day, Hiaasen plans a question-and-answer session on his career and writing with about 600 middle school and high school students representing nine central Ohio schools. Through a gift from a local donor, each student will receive a copy of his new book, “Skink - No Surrender.”

Hiaasen, a native of Fort Lauderdale, Florida, is the author of Hoot and other books for children, teens and adults. His latest novel for adults was “Bad Monkey,” published in 2013.
