HOUMA, La. (AP) - The Terrebonne Levee and Conservation District is repairing the Bubba Dove Floodgate after a cable snapped when it was closed in response to the high water event created by the remnants of Hurricane Patricia.

Levee and Conservation District Director Reggie Dupre tells The Courier (https://bit.ly/20fyPjI) officials had little prior warning of the possibility of flooding from the remnants of Hurricane Patricia. The floodgate was closed as soon as the advisory was upgraded to a flood warning.

Dupre says the floodgate located in the Houma Navigation Canal in Dulac is the most critical floodgate in the parish as it protects the most people in the parish, including the city of Houma.

He says a tugboat was rented to reopen the channel on Monday and repairs are underway.
