CAHOKIA, Ill. (AP) - A southwestern Illinois woman has been sentenced to five years in prison for criminal neglect of an elderly person following her 62-year-old housemate’s death.

The Belleville News-Democrat (bit.ly/1WlVbLU ) reports that Lisa Luckett of Cahokia pleaded guilty to the felony charge involving the 2012 death of Dorothy Cooper.

Assistant St. Clair County State’s Attorney Daniel Lewis said that Cooper was “severely malnourished” and “found with bed sores all the way down to the bone.”

Luckett had shared a home with Cooper since 2006. She was arrested in July 2013 and has since been found guilty of Medicaid fraud. Lewis said she will serve both sentences concurrently.

Belleville defense attorney Justin Kuehn told the newspaper that it was unclear whether Luckett met the legal definition of a caregiver.
