BRENTWOOD, Calif. (AP) - Authorities say a California Highway Patrol officer was injured in the San Francisco Bay Area during a pursuit where a vehicle collided with his patrol car.

The San Francisco Chronicle reports (https://bit.ly/1kYkbx8 ) Friday that on Thursday afternoon an officer tried to stop a Honda Accord with missing license plates in Brentwood. Police say the car slowed as if to stop, but when the officer approached on foot, the vehicle sped off.

A nearby CHP motorcycle officer chased the car, while the officer who initiated the stop got back into his patrol car and caught up with the men.

The fleeing occupants tossed guns out of the window during the chase then rammed the patrol car head on.

The men were arrested. The CHP officer was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
