SMITHTOWN, N.Y. (AP) - Authorities say a fire has destroyed a maintenance building at a Long Island country club.

Newsday reports (https://nwsdy.li/1jWmTmC ) the blaze was reported at around 6 p.m. Thursday in Smithtown.

Fire officials say it took four departments and about an hour to contain the flames at the two-story building. No one was injured.

Officials say the fire prevented residents of the country club complex from returning home until firetrucks left because there was only one entrance on the property.

The Smithtown fire marshal’s office and police are investigating.
