OBERLIN, La. (AP) - Former Kinder Police Chief Gary Pelican has been sentenced to three years’ supervised probation for using town issued credit cards to buy fuel for himself and family members.

Additionally, the 54-year-old Pelican was given a suspended three-year prison term Thursday.

The American Press reports (https://bit.ly/1eOXZNb) a hearing on what Pelican will pay the town in restitution is scheduled for Dec. 6.

Pelican pleaded guilty to charges of malfeasance and theft over $1,500 in February. Nine other counts of malfeasance were dismissed as part of a plea agreement.

Pelican was arrested by state police in January 2013.
