SANTA ANA, Calif. (AP) - A judge in Orange County has refused to bar the death penalty for a man charged with killing two college students, one of whom was dismembered.

City News Service says the judge on Friday denied Daniel Wozniak’s bids to delay trial and dismiss the possibility of capital punishment if he’s convicted. A request for a hearing on defense allegations of government misconduct also was denied.

Trial - which was delayed earlier this year - could begin next month.

Wozniak, a former stage actor, has pleaded not guilty to killing two Orange Coast College students in 2010.

Prosecutors say he shot Samuel Herr and Juri Kibuishi so he could steal from them to pay for his wedding and honeymoon.
