HARRISBURG, Pa. (AP) - Jury selection is underway in the trial of a Pennsylvania police officer accused of fatally shooting an unarmed man in the back earlier this year.

PennLive.com reports (https://bit.ly/1NFHEwu ) jury selection began Friday morning in the trial of 37-year-old Hummelstown police officer Lisa Mearkle. She’s charged with criminal homicide for shooting David Kassick in the back after he fled from a traffic stop in February.

Prosecutors cited video from the officer’s stun gun that they say shows the shooting wasn’t justified.

Mearkle’s attorneys say she shot Kassick because she believed he was reaching for a weapon.

The trial is expected to start Monday.
