COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) - Heavy rains are expected to move into South Carolina this weekend and state officials are asking property owners and reservoir operators to check to see if water levels behind dams need to be lowered.

The State Climate Office says that up to 4 inches of rain could fall in the northern Midlands and the Upstate with a system moving in Sunday. The rains could be heavy at times and continue into Tuesday.

The Department of Health and Environmental Control is asking property owners to check to level of water behind dams and lower the levels if needed. They are being asked to contact emergency officials and residents downstream if a break in a dam appears imminent.
