GRANTS PASS, Ore. (AP) - A man will spend more than three years in prison after pleading guilty to shooting a friend in the arm near Cave Junction in August.

Thirty-four-year-old William Jay Cozad was convicted Thursday of assault and unlawful use of a weapon in Josephine County Circuit Court

Prosecutors dropped a more serious charge that would have carried a mandatory sentence of nearly six years.

Prosecutor Matt Corey says Cozad was upset because he suspected his best friend was having a romantic relationship with his wife.

The Grants Pass Daily Courier reports (https://bit.ly/1SdfqL2 ) that Cozad did not have any prior felony convictions.
