ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) - A man accused of shooting his brother-in-law with a crossbow while wearing a Santa Claus hat and mask has been sentenced to 6.5 years in prison.

An Albuquerque jury on Thursday found 78-year-old Wendell Gunthorpe guilty of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, aggravated assault, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon on a household member, battery of a household member and violating a restraining order against him.

Prosecutors say Gunthorpe and his wife were going through a divorce in 2011 when he confronted her and her brother outside an apartment. He shot his brother-in-law in the head with a crossbow and punched his wife. Both victims survived the attack.
