WILMERDING, Pa. (AP) - Sheriff’s deputies have arrested a Pittsburgh-area woman on charges she kidnapped her 8-year-old son from his elementary school after losing custody of the boy earlier in the day.

Twenty-five-year-old Kanisha Thompson, of Wilmerding, is jailed on charges including kidnapping and interfering in the custody of a child. She faces a preliminary hearing Nov. 10.

Allegheny County sheriff’s deputies say Thompson was arrested Thursday, two days after they say she illegally removed the boy from his school in the East Allegheny School District.

The FBI and county authorities determined Thompson was living with another woman in North Braddock and deputies went to the apartment Thursday and found Thompson hiding in the basement. Her son was also found and has been returned to his father.

Online court records don’t list an attorney for Thompson.
