PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) - A state trooper will receive $50,000 in a settlement with the city of Eugene over his arrest during an Oregon Ducks football game.

The Oregonian reports (https://goo.gl/Qxyk0z ) Trooper Marc Boyd’s lawsuit alleges that an officer used excessive force and arrested him without probable cause at Autzen Stadium in 2013. Boyd said he had been singled out in a crowd of unruly fans.

The settlement reached Wednesday is far below the $400,000 Boyd had initially sought. A Eugene police spokeswoman says Boyd’s claims were dismissed, but legal fees were considered in the city’s decision to settle.

The city admitted the officer should’ve taken additional measures to confirm Boyd’s arrest, but said the suit was filed in retaliation against the officer, who alerted Boyd’s employer about his actions at the game.
