SYRACUSE, N.Y. (AP) - Police say two tree stands apparently built by hunters have been found in a cemetery near the Syracuse University campus.

Officials tell The Post-Standard of Syracuse (https://bit.ly/1Wo2tOY ) on Friday that two portable tree stands were recently discovered and taken down at Oakwood Cemetery, located on 160 acres of forested hills.

The cemetery borders the campus.

City police say the university’s public safety office and the state Department of Environmental Conservation are all investigating who put the tree stands in the cemetery.

City and Onondaga County officials have been discussing ways to cull the area’s deer herd.

Last spring, a study led by the state College of Environmental Science and Forestry in Syracuse estimated about 300 deer may be living in Syracuse and an adjacent section of suburban DeWitt.
