ALLENTOWN, Pa. (AP) - Authorities say four police officers were injured while trying to break up a brawl involving dozens of students near an eastern Pennsylvania high school.

One Allentown police officer was pulled to the ground by her hair and punched in the face during Thursday’s melee outside William Allen High School. Police say a group of students then surrounded the officer and some took part in the assault.

Three students were arrested after the brawl, and two more were arrested on Friday. They face charges ranging from aggravated assault to riot.

Police say more than 100 youths gathered near the school.

Allentown Mayor Ed Pawlowski commended the officers on Friday for showing “remarkable restraint.”
