SOUTH PARK, Pa. (AP) - A volunteer has been charged with stealing more than $35,000 from a Pittsburgh-area haunted house that benefits two charities.

Police say 45-year-old Daniel Clifford, of North Huntingdon, stole the money from the Hundred Acre Manor haunted house in South Park.

WPXI-TV (https://bit.ly/1ipH7nb ) reports the nonprofit donates about $200,000 a year raised by the haunted house to Animal Friends and the Homeless Children Fund. Organizers are hoping a busy Halloween weekend will help them make up for what’s been stolen.

A criminal complaint says Clifford has acknowledged stealing the money. He allegedly told police he began stealing the money after he accidentally dropped a $20 bill and nobody noticed when he picked it up and put it in his pocket instead of a cash register.

Nobody answered Clifford’s home phone Friday, and the voice mail was full.
