FORT LEE, N.J. (AP) - Police recovered $750,000 worth of heroin during a traffic stop in Fort Lee.

Detective T.J. Cullen stopped the vehicle on Hazlitt Street and questioned the driver on Thursday. Police say Cullen continued to investigate when the driver’s answers did not make sense.

The detective looked under the vehicle and spotted a compartment which was built into the center console.

Police found 3 kilograms of heroin with an estimated street value of $750,000 inside.

Officers charged 44-year-old Juan Polanco of New York City with heroin distribution. It’s not known if he has a lawyer who can comment on the charges.
